Meet Owen Plant. Owen is a local musician and owner of Lulu Entertainment, LLC through which he coordinates live music artists for various social events around SSI. Additionally, Owen and his wife stay busy with their entertainment as they raise their 16 month old daughter. I first had the pleasure of meeting Owen some time back after listening to him perform at Uncle Don’s farmers market. Recently, I was able to catch up with him for coffee at his favorite hang out, Wake Up. I asked Owen a few questions so that our community could get to know him better.
Q: What inspired you or led you to your current career?
A: “I had an injury and couldn’t move around a lot. My father taught me some chords on the guitar. Even though I had played instruments before….it was the guitar itself and the sounds that came out of it that inspired me. And I started writing songs immediately. The sound of the guitar and my voice together is really what started it.”
Q: What is your favorite restaurant on SSI and what do you love there?
A: “Tara. Sushi, Chirashi.”
Q: How long have you lived on SSI?
A: “Since 2013.”
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here on SSI?
A: “Ed Hose, a visual artist.”
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
A: “Turkey or Croatia. Don’t know exactly why. I just feel pulled to it.”
Q: What is your favorite movie or what is the first movie you remember seeing in a theatre?
A: “The first movie I remember seeing in a theatre was Raiders of the Lost Ark. My favorite movie is probably When Harry Met Sally.”
Q: What advice would you give to people?
A: “Be kind.”
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: “Meet Bob Dylan.”
Q: What are 3 bands (dead or alive) that you would like to see?
A: “Michael Kiwanuka, Paul Simon-solo, Bob Marley.”
Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about SSI?
A: “Wake Up. When I’m on the road and I get a bad cup of coffee it’s all I can think about.”
Q: Choosing anyone alive and a non-relative with whom would you love to have lunch and why?
A: “Will Smith. His Attitude and positivity. His ability to constantly improve and reinvent himself and his career.”
Q: What is your favorite thing that or something unique about St. Simons?
A: “The marsh, the Spanish Moss, the Live Oaks and the views. Even after living here for five years it’s all still so beautiful to me.”
Q: Where do you see yourself in five or ten years?
A: “Here, probably. Raising my daughter and playing music.”
Q: Even for friends and family, what is something most people don’t know about you?
A: “I day dream about backwards time travel. To my life prior to being, maybe, 25. What things I might have changed or done differently. Nothing bad. Just thoughts.”
Q: What three words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
A: “Comfort, Love and Safety.”
